Episode 09: Unveiling the Power and Beauty of Noise with Richard Garet
Richard Garet joins us to discuss noise as an expressive medium that challenges our perception of sound and emotions. He shares his methods for creating immersive sound and visual installations, using unconventional materials like amplified EMF emissions, modified audiocassettes, and dysfunctional tape players. Through his work, Garet demonstrates how discarded devices can illustrate the function and de-functionalization of media while also critiquing our obsession with material possessions. He shares his installations that combine sound and visual components and explains how he creates static images, one of which was installed on Times Square, providing an optical journey through the famous location.
